William Goldsmith Lawrence, 80, formerly of Taunton died Wednesday., Feb. 9, 2011 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was the husband of Iris N. (Morgan) Lawrence.
Born in Ludlow, MA., he was a son of the late Henry and Frances (Rice) Lawrence.
Mr. Lawrence served his country in the Navy from 1950-1954 and was stationed aboard the USS Caloosahatchee.
Following his service he owned and operated a typewriter repair shop in Taunton for many years.
Bill loved his family, visits to flea markets, and was a lifelong car enthusiast.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Christopher Lawrence of Taunton, a daughter Bonnie Porreca of Louisiana, two brothers Ben and Don Lawrence both of New York, and his favorite nephew Derek Gauthier and sister-in-law Alice Gauthier. He was the father of the late William A. Lawrence and Stephen R. Lawrence. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 am in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-8 pm in the funeral home.
