Bertha R. Leighton, 94, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at The Lafayette Nursing Facility in Marblehead , MA .
Bertha was born to the late, Ernest and Mildred (Erving) Hill in Beverly , MA . She was raised and educated in Beverly , where she was a resident until she moved to Salem , NH in 1969. She was a resident of Millville Arms for over 30 years. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Bertha dedicated her life to her family and raising her children. She is remembered by her children as an exceptional and loving mother and will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bertha is predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Louis D. Leighton and her siblings, Raymond Hill and Rose Tansey. She leaves her children, Sandra Masiello of Danvers , MA , Brenda Leighton of Salem , MA , Lois Robert and her husband Ken of Derry, NH, Barbara George and her husband Louis “Butch”of Londonderry , NH and Daniel and his wife Nancy of Chester, NH, a sister, Mildred Kukene of Amesbury , MA , 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her beloved bird BB.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 10 to 11am at the Goundrey and Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street , Salem , NH . A Funeral Service in her honor will follow at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery , Salem , NH .
