Margaret A. "Margie" (Travers) Smith, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Friday February 11, 2011 at Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston following an extended illness. She was 81 years old.
Margie was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Girls Latin School in Boston in 1945. She worked for several years at Powers Answering Service in Boston and then as a secretary for 23 years at the Bunker Hill Health Center in Charlestown, retiring in 1991.
Margie is the beloved wife of the late William J. Smith. She is the devoted mother of Edward Smith and his wife Linda of New Hampshire, Paula Smith-MacDonald and her husband Paul MacDonald of Mansfield, Martie Smith-Joe and her husband Thomas Joe of Byfield, William "Buddy" Smith of Charlestown, Larry Smith and his wife Joyce of Foxboro and the late Kathy Hutchins-Davis. She is the loving grandmother of Paul, Melissa, John, Rob, Gabe, Ian, Adriana, Zach, Joanne and the late Jamie and her great-grandaughter; Kalyn. She is the beloved sister of Patricia Sutherland of Quincy and the late Mary Vieno and Jim Travers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Margie's Funeral on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours on Monday, February 14, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m.
