Joe Buddy Day, 94, of Waterloo died Friday, February 11, 2011, at his home, which he built and lived in for over 70 years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts and Rev. Sonny Pate will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. His grandsons, Jamie Day, Jason Day, Joe Fletcher, Hugh Fletcher, Lake Fletcher, Heath Day, Matt Smith, Eli Smith, Jack Lindsey, Jimmy Day and Shane McKee will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his life-long friend, Hughes Chapman; his granddaughters, Valerie Goodman, Cindy Ball, Ann Marie Day, Jessica Smith, Kristen Fletcher, Karter Fletcher, Paisley Fletcher, Hannah Fletcher, and Hailey Fletcher and employees of Hospice of Tiftarea. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 13, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Day was born on July 24, 1916 in Cleburne County, Alabama and was the son of John Marion Day and Mary Frances McElroy Day, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Wilson Day; three sons, Mack Day, Don Day and Joseph Day; one great-granddaughter, Leanna McKee; seven sisters; and one brother. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Long County Hunting Club for over 50 years and was a Mason. He loved fox hunting with his nephew, Travis Ethridge and raised and trained hunting dogs.
Mr. Day is survived by one son, Charles Day of Marietta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Larry Fletcher of Donaldsonville and Martha and Eddie Sklany of Tifton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and his long-time companion, Rambo.
