
Mr. Robert F. Prokop, a longtime resident of Woburn passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center on February 10th following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan M (Coccoluto) together sharing fifty years of marriage. Born and raised in Haverstraw, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Zimbrinski) Prokop.
Mr. Prokop retired from the United States Army in 1971 with the rank of Sergeant First Class, following 21 years of honorable service to his country. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars receiving numerous medals and commendations, including a Bronze Star. Following his military career and return to civilian life, Mr. Prokop and his family settled back to Woburn. He began working for the Polaroid Corp. security department and retired from there after twenty-five years of faithful and dedicated employment.
In his leisure time he enjoyed working on models, spending time outdoors gardening, working in his yard and in more recent years he enjoyed building and maintaining his koi pond. Throughout his military life he was able to travel extensively but cherished traveling and spending time with his family and friends. His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren and staying current on all of their many activities and accomplishments.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Prokop is survived by his sons, Robert Prokop Jr. and his wife Carla of Springfield, VA, and Paul Prokop and his wife Elizabeth of Woburn. He was the loving grandfather of Kyle, Matthew, Casey, Paige and Riley Prokop. Brother of Jean Secor of PA, Joseph Prokop Jr. and his wife Lynn, Joyce Westbrook, and James McGill all of NY, the late Barbara Bolock, Ruth and Betty McGill. Cherished son-in-law of Josephine Coccoluto of Woburn and the late Frank Coccoluto. Brother-in-law of Frank and Annette Coccoluto of Woburn, Elaine and John Worsham of Burlington.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Tuesday, Feb. 15th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Monday from 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
