HAVERHILL: Rose E. (Strickland) Lajoie, 58, died February 6, 2011 in the Merrimack Valley Hospital.
She was born on May 12, 1952 in Manchester, Connecticut, she is the daughter of Rose (Bryant) Strickland of Connecticut and the late Arthur Strickland, Sr. She had resided in Connecticut for several years, before moving to Haverhill when she was sixteen years old.
She was employed as a driver for the Veteran’s Department for the City of Haverhill, where she would take local Veterans to their appointments and errands. Most recently Rose worked as a cab driver for the A Family Cab Company in Haverhill. She enjoyed her position there and looked at her fellow employees as her second family. In her recreational time she enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting and going to yard sales.
Her favorite times were spent with her family and friends. She truly loved her role as a grandmother and was affectionately known as “Meme” to her granddaughters. Her family will miss her very much but they do know she has gone and joined her sister, Dorothy “Dee” Brunelle who died in 2009 with whom she was very close to.
In addition to her mother she is survived by her daughter, Billie-Jo Lajoie of Haverhill, two granddaughters, Jami Lajoie of Illinois and Bobbi Lajoie of Haverhill, two sisters, Gladys Bryant and Mary Adams both of CT, two brothers, Arthur Strickland, Jr., of CT and Richard Strickland of TN, six nieces, Terri Noyes, Elizabeth Gordon, Kendra Evans, Mickie-Jo Taylor, Rolina Burwell and Sarah Amarena all of Haverhill, and many loving great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her sister, Dorothy “Dee” Brunelle she is also predeceased by her brother, Donald Strickland.
Her funeral services will be held on Friday, in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Oxford Manor Activity Fund, 689 Main St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
