WORCESTER – Mr. Michael J. Giarusso, 93, passed away Monday February 7th at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center.
He is survived by his sister in law, Mrs. Irene(Petrone) Giarusso of Worcester, his companion and close friend, Barbara Shea; his nephews, Philip Giarusso and his wife Meg, Jack Giarusso and his wife Karen, Francis Brockway and his Linda all of Worcester, Vincent Giarusso and his wife Beverly of West Boylston, Joseph Brockway and his wife Katherine of Rhode Island; his nieces, Angela Giarusso, Carla Rodgers, both of Worcester, Carol Zenaro and her husband Ron of Shrewsbury, and Catherine Lawton and her husband George of Leicester.
He was born January 11, 1918 in Worcester, Massachusetts a son of the late Joseph and Natalina (Simone) Giarusso.
A lifelong resident of Worcester, Mr. Giarusso was educated through the Worcester Schools. Following his education he joined the Army and served his country while stationed in France during World War II. He was wounded twice and received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon One Star. Upon his return he went to work for U.S. Steel up until his retirement.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel – St Ann Church. His family wishes to thank the staff at Beaumont Rehabilitation for the care he received during his stay.
His funeral will be held Wednesday February 9th from FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St. Worcester. Visiting hours will be from 10am to 11am Wednesday followed by a prayer service in the Funeral Home at 11am. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
