Obituary

Ralph F. Skerry, age 95, of Winchester, passed away at the Winchester Nursing Center on Feb. 7, 2011 following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia F. (Moran) Skerry. Born and raised in Winchester, the son of the late Hugh J. and Anastasia (Driscoll) Skerry, Mr. Skerry graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1929 and Winchester High School in 1933. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Aberjona Post No. 3719 of the Winchester V.F.W. and former member of the local Knights of Columbus. He was the father to Virginia A. Skerry-Quigley and her husband Richard M. of Winchester, Joseph J. Skerry and his wife Jane of Woburn, and Ralph F. Skerry, Jr. of Winchester and Stoneham. Devoted grandfather to Kristen A., Joseph J., Jr. and Phillip J. Skerry, all of Woburn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and his loving companion, Lily, which he walked all over town. Mr. Skerry was the youngest of five children: the late Walter J. Skerry, Anastasia “Sis” Connolly, Henry and Frederick Skerry. Mr. Skerry served two years in the U.S. Naval Reserve and four years of active service during WWII with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Campaign aboard the USS Fomalhaut, a transport and attack cargo ship in the southwest Pacific, which was involved in the initial attack on Guadalcanal. He retired after many years from the AVCO research laboratory in Everett. His Funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., and Winchester on Fri., Feb. 11 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting Hours are Thurs. 4-8PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery. The family kindly requests no flowers.
