Dorothy “Dottie” Hanson, 90, of Peoria, passed away unexpectedly on February 6th 2011 at her residence.
She was born on December 22, 1920 in Monongahela, PA. the daughter of Leon and Mary Sterling Livemont.
Dottie was an honorably discharged US Navy Veteran. While stationed in Oletha, KS she fell in love and later married Philip D. “PD” Hanson in 1945.
Surviving is one daughter Jamie (Michael) Harder of Peoria, one granddaughter Kimberly Watson of Sarasota, FL, two grandsons Michael (Jennifer) Harder Jr. of Peoria and Jason (Jessica) Myers of Washington, IL. Five great grandchildren also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 19, 2000, one daughter Sue Kish, one infant son Philip David Hanson Jr. and three sisters.
She worked for Kraft Foods in Pittsburgh after her high school graduation. She was a graduate Indiana University Northwest in Gary, IN. earning an Associated Degree in Business Administration. After she and “PD” moved to Peoria they owned and operated several laundromats and dry cleaning services in the area. She was a licensed Real-Estate agent. She also was involved in taking census for the US Government.
She was a lifetime member of Mt. Hawley County Club in Peoria where she once served as the President of the Investment Committee. She was an avid golfer active into her eighty’s playing and winning several local tournaments.
She also loved playing bridge with the “Girls” on a weekly basis, and enjoyed water aerobics at the club. In recent years she had become affiliated with Glen Oak Christian Church, where she attended services and activities as her health allowed. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those she touched.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for both Dottie and her late husband “PD” at 11:00am on Saturday Feb 19th 2011 at Glen Oak Christian Church in Peoria with the Rev. Randy Williams officiating. Visitation will be one-half hour prior to her service also at the church. Memorials may be given in their name to the Glen Oak Christian Church or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Notes of condolence may be sent to peoriafuneral.com.
