SALEM- George Clark Brackett, 90, husband of the late Bessie C. (Schneider) Brackett, of Salem, a retired Salem Police Officer, died Thursday, January 1, 2004 in a local nursing home following a long illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Lester T. and Dorothy (South) Brackett and was a lifelong resident of the city.
He was a member of the Salem Police Department from 1941 until his retirement in 1978. During his career, he was in charge of the Traffic Division office, was the Safety Officer, department photographer and the treasurer of the Salem Police Relief Association.
Mr. Brackett was a member of the St Peter’s Episcopal Church, Salem, where he sang in the choir and played the organ. He was a life member of the North Shore Musician’s Union and at one time had his own orchestra, the Lou Clark Orchestra.
He is survived by one niece, Michelle Liming and one nephew, John C. Tanguay, both of Marblehead. He was predeceased by one sister, Wilma Tanguay.
At his request a private funeral service was arranged by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
