WAYLAND/SUDBURY: Dorothy M. (Dixon) Humphrey, 85, died peacefully at her residence in Wayland on Monday, January 31, 2011.
She was born in Quincy on September 15, 1925 the daughter of the late Ernest Dixon and Alice (Gillfeather) Dixon.
Dorothy is survived by her three devoted sons, Stephen W. Humphrey, III and his wife Denise A. of Franklin; Michael D. Humphrey of Natick and Mark B. Humphrey and his wife Pamela M. of Oxford formerly of Webster. Also survived by four grandchildren. She was the wife for 57 years of the late Stephen W. Humphrey, Jr. who died in May of 2007 and sister of the late Alice Buckley.
Mrs. Humphrey spent her formative years in North Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School with the Class of 1943. She has been a resident of Wayland for the past several years and resided in Sudbury for over 52 years. Dorothy was a graduate of Fisher Junior College and began her career as a legal secretary with a Boston law firm. For over 20 years, she was the Administrative Assistant for the Assistant Superintendent of Wayland Public School System. She was an avid skier and an outstanding tennis player. She was an accomplished bridge player and was active in many of the area senior citizen centers playing bridge. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family and particularly enjoyed family vacations camping on Cape Cod for over 25 years. She will be greatly missed by all the lives that she touched.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Rd, Sudbury.
Due to the inclement weather situation, interment in the Humphrey family lot in New North Cemetery, Sudbury will be held at a later date.
