Roy Nathaniel Montgomery, age 72, of 1844 Cascade Road, Cascade, Virginia, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past year.
Born January 5, 1939 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Cabell Montgomery and Marie Betterton Montgomery. He lived most of his life in the Westover Hills and Cascade communities and was employed by DuPont until his retirement. Mr. Montgomery was a veteran of the United States Army, having served seven years, a member of the American Legion, and a founding member and trustee of Timberlake Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Still Montgomery of the residence; one brother: Bennie Montgomery of Danville; one sister: Amy Saunders and her husband Kenneth of Danville; two nieces: Robin Vaughan of Danville and Annette Caswell of Cascade; two nephews: Terry Saunders of Burlington, NC and Robert Still of Cascade.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Roy Keith Montgomery.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Walter Yancey, Rev. Jimmie Pruitt, and Rev. Daniel Custer will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Timberlake Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, February 3, 2011, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the church, and at other times they will be at the residence.
The family respectfully requests donations be made to the Timberlake Baptist Church Building Fund.
