North Andover, MA- Alfred G. Hambelton, 80, of North Andover and Naples, FL, died peacefully Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Concord Health and Rehab in Concord, MA, surrounded by his loving and supportive family.
Born in Chelsea on August 14, 1930, Al was the son of Herbert C. and Margaret (Day) Hambelton. He was educated in the Boston area and graduated from Boston Technical High School. Upon graduation, Al attended Boston State Teachers ‘ College, graduating in 1953.He then received his masters in teaching in 1960 from Suffolk University. Additionally, he was appointed to and served on the City of Lawrence Board of Health in the 1960’s.
For 38 years, Al taught at Wilmington High School in Wilmington, MA, where he was the head of the Industrial Arts Department.Throughout his long career at Wilmington High, he was a major influence in the development of the curricula in the Industrial Arts Department and, through his dedication, greatly impacted many students’ lives.
A gifted wood worker and craftsman,he enjoyed working in and around the house,being in the sun, gardening and his family.
The widower of the late J. Marie (Miville) Hambelton, who died in 1985, Al is survived by his four loving children: Ann M. Kenyon and her husband Mark, of Chappaqua, NY; Alfred G. Hambelton Jr. and his wife Patricia, of Littleton, MA; Paul C. Hambelton and his wife Kristin, of Sudbury, MA; and Jeanne M. Corey and her husband Dimitri of Hopkinton, MA. He will also be deeply missed by his six grandchildren: Meredith and Theodore Kenyon, and Jack, Grace, William and Daniel Hambelton. He also leaves his very close cousins, Anne Marie Fitzpatrick of Dedham and Cathy Pimental of Foxboro as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his dear companion, Doris Sinclair.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, February 3rd from 5-8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 4th at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Lawrence, MA, with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover.
