ROCKINGHAM: Mrs. Margie Flowers Sheppard, 87, of Rockingham, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 in her home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:oo AM on Tuesday, February 1, in the Highland Acres Church of God with Pastor James E. Bailey officiating. Internment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
A lifelong resident of Richmond County, Margie was born in Cordova on May 31, 1923 to the late John J. and Minnie England Millen. Prior to her retitrement she worked in textiles at Sandhurst Hoisery and later as a cook at Quick Stop convenience, as well as being a proud Avon representative. While she was able, she was an active and lifelong member of Highland Acres Church of God. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Archie Wilson Flowers in 1978, a son, Gary Edward Flowers; brothers, Boyce, Charlie, Otis, Edgar, and Cleburn Millen; and sisters, Evelyn Banks, Emma Sellars, and Gertrude Prevatte Newell.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Sheppard; daughters, Brenda Wise and husband James of Goose Creek, SC, Cathy Hinson and husband Jim of Rockingham; sisters, Gladys Dillard of Kill Devil Hills, Martha Treadaway of Hamlet, Mary Cannon and Peggy Cain both of Rockingham; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; eight step-grandchildren; eleven step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild.
