Louise M. (Garrity) Marchant, 81, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Saturday January 29, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
Born in Taunton, MA on December 16, 1929, she was a loving daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Dion) Garitty.
Louise grew up and was educated in the Barrowsville section of Norton. She was a Receptionist, having worked at H & R Block in Attleboro for 15 years prior to retiring. She had formerly been employed for over 30 years as an Expeditor at the former L.G. Balfour Co. in Attleboro.
A lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Louise was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Filmore-Nason VFW Post 8049 in Norton. She was also a member of the Gold Dusters Club in Attleboro and for many years was a familiar face at the Norton election polls where she served as a check in counter.
Louise was devoted to her adoring family. She enjoyed playing cards and was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her devoted children Denise M. Cochran of Norton, Kevin M. Marchant and his wife Rose of Kent, Washington and Keith A. Marchant of Attleboro. The dear sister of Donald E. Garrity of Norton and the late Marguerite C. Garrity and Robert L. Garrity, Louise is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Sean Cochran and his wife Barbara of Attleboro, Christopher Cochran of Attleboro, Kim Flood and her husband Lawrence of Worcester, Edward Marchant of Attleboro, Corey Marchant of Attleboro and Patrick Marchant of Kent, Washington, her great grandchildren Adam, Hannah, Josieanna, Abigale and Sean, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday February 2nd at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday February 1st from 4-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, R.I. 02904 in recognition of the love and care expressed to Louise and the Marchant family.
