GLOUCESTER: Arlene C. (Parsons) Day, 82, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Jack H. Day, who died in January 1973.
Born in Gloucester on April 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Marion (Hall) Parsons. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1946.
Arlene was employed as an office administrator for Americold Logistics in Gloucester for many years. She was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed traveling, walks along the boulevard and her morning coffee with her dear friend, Betty Cooney every day since 1954.
She is survived by her two sons, Jack H., Jr. and his wife, Susan Day of The Villages, FL and Robert P. and his wife, Andie Day of Boston; ten grandchildren, Heather Maddix, Matthew Day, Abby and her husband, Joe Kingston, Betsy Day, Anna Day, Jack Day, Rachel Day, Melissa and her husband, Jeremy Cummings, Deandra Morse and Justin Morse; five great-grandchildren and a nephew, Alan and his wife, Judith Murray. She was also predeceased by her sister, Harriett Murray-Smith and longtime companion, Everett Tyne.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Interment will be held in the Wesleyan Cemetery.
