Alfred D. Rosa, 89, of New Bedford died January 26, 2011 unexpectedly at home.
He was the husband of Deonilda M. "Deo" (Santos) Rosa.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Adolph and Eva (Rittle) Rosa, he lived in New Jersey before moving to New Bedford 38 years ago.
Mr. Rosa was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed by Morse Twist Drill.
Mr. Rosa served in the U.S. Navy as a diver aboard a mine sweeper during World War II.
He was a member of American Legion in East Newark, NJ and the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandra Silva of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Regina Silva of New Bedford and Melissa Nascimento and her husband Réne of Wareham; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Monday, January 31st at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, January 30th 3-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
