Obituary

Germain A. Leclerc, 84, of Old River Rd., Manville, passed away Tuesday at South County Hospital. He was the husband of the late Simone (Laprade) Leclerc who passed away in November. They were married on September 4, 1948.
Born in Manville, he was a son of the late Olivier and Alexina (Dumas) Leclerc. He was a lifelong resident of Manville.
Mr. Leclerc served in the Army during WWII in the European Theatre.
He worked for Branch River Worsted Company and A.H. Duffy Inc. before his retirement.
Mr. Leclerc was a very active parishioner of St. James Parish. His long tradition of running the kitchen for the parish carnival for several decades earned him the affectionate nickname of “Chef Germain”.
Germain’s involvement in parish life also extended to volunteering for the Fr. Marot CYO Center, especially with the Center’s Winter Carnival, Autumnfest booth, and other functions. He shared his cooking skills by preparing many breakfasts for numerous organizations including the Boy Scouts and the RI Blood Bank.
He was also a member of Alphonse Yelle Post American Legion, Manville.
He is survived by a son, Ronald E. Leclerc, and his wife Debra, of Richmond, RI, a daughter, Suzanne Guertin, and her husband Paul, of Lincoln, and a granddaughter Amy Guertin of Brookline, MA. He was the brother of the late Armand Leclerc, Doris Ranville, and Therese Blais. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Saturday at 9:00am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-7 pm.
