Obituary

WASHINGTON…Ronald N. Marshall, 78, of Washington, passed away quietly early Sunday, January 23, 2011 at his home.

Ron was born on April 8, 1932 in Peoria to Orville and Julia Hutson Marshall. He married Marian Magee in Washington on August 23, 1952, Marian survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Holly Ann (Mark) Kane of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Beth Kay (Alan) Stewart of Huntsville, Alabama; his grandchildren, Michael (Laura Whalen), Wesley, David and Stuart Maxheimer all of Washington and Mark (Katie), Peter and Thomas Kane all of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and his great grand daughter, Gianna Kane; and one sister, Suzy Reiring of Washington.

Ron was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Teri Lynn and Steve Maxheimer; two sisters, Patricia Brown and Sally Ann Marshall and three brothers, James O., Larry E., and Edward T. Marshall.

He was a retired Major having served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until his retirement in 1975. After retirement Ron stayed active by serving as Mayor of Washington for two terms and also served on the Tazewell County Board. Then also in his retirement he loved being the golf coach at ICC for a number of years prior to retiring in 2009.

Ron belonged to Walker-Danforth V.F.W. Post 9016 and had served as a past commander, he was also a member of American Legion Post 100 and the Military Officers Association of America.

A lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor John Bates officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the services at the church and burial of ashes will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date. Mason-White Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements.
