Jerry W. Harper, 72, of Lax, Georgia died Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence.
Memorial services will be private.
Mr. Harper was born April 30, 1938 in Ocilla to the late Willis and Alice Kilgore Harper. He was a 1956 graduate of Irwin County High School and then moved to Largo, FL where he worked in the tile business before going to work as a Sergeant with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department in 1967, retiring in 1992. He then moved back to Georgia, settling in the Lax Community. Mr. Harper was a member of Satilla Baptist Church. He enjoyed restoring his 1966 Mustang.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara J. Harper of the Lax Community; daughter and son-in-law: Brenda & Bruce Hickey of Tifton; son and daughter-in-law: Marshall & Lori Harper of Largo, FL; grandchildren: Jeff and Brandi Hickey Lyon of Tifton, Chad Harper, Matthew Harper and Kaitlyn Harper all of Largo, FL; sister and brother-in-law: Alicia & Ray Roberts of Ocilla; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy & Molly Harper of Douglas and Danny & Barbara Harper of Ocilla as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Tommy and Andy Harper.
