Rose D. (Laratonda) Messina, 89 a resident of Andover, MA, formerly of Lawrence, MA and Atria Marland Place in Andover, MA, died on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the Wingate at Andover.
Mrs. Messina was born on February 9, 1921 in Lawrence, MA, to Michele and Antonetta (Miele) Laratonda. Educated in Lawrence local schools, graduated from Lawrence High School class of 1938. She worked for the Caritas Holy Family Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Rita's Sodality at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence. She was also a former member of the Italian Women's Club. She was presently an attendant of St. Michael Church in North Andover, MA. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed BINGO, embroidery, and crafts. She will always be remembered for her famous culinary delights.
She was the wife of the late Louis F. Messina. She is survived by her daughter Annette and husband Vincent of North Andover; four granddaughters, Dr. Patti (Deminski) Richard and husband Brian of Haverhill; Caroline (Deminski) Keenan and husband Jay of Westport, CT; Joy and Hope Ardizzone of Brooklyn, NY, and five great grandchildren Alexa Rose & Ashley Richard, Conor, Callie and Carrick Keenan; sister-in-law Mary Laratonda, and brother-in-law Sam Tripoli both of Haverhill, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Marguerite “Peggy” Deminski and sisters Lena Laratonda, Carmela Tripoli, Mary Bonenfant, Louise Peters and Daniel Laratonda.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 12:00PM in St. Michael Church in North Andover, MA. A burial will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
