Robert J. Roy, of Plymouth, died on January 22nd at Jordan Hospital at the age of 81. The beloved husband of the late Joan (Geraghty), he is survived by his sons Robert Roy Jr. and his wife Karen, Michael and his wife Judy, Christopher and his wife Beth all of Plymouth and Paul and his wife Diane of Sagamore, 12 cherished grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Frank, Robert’s twin brother Albert, his sister Alice Stringer and grandfather of the late Lindsay Roy.
Born in Boston, Robert joined the U.S Army in 1946, serving in Japan during WWII. After serving in active duty, he served in the reserves where he was on the rifle team and the machine gun team. He retired as a Sergeant Major after serving over 20 years. He graduated from Boston University and was the owner of Flowers by Rob Roy in West Roxbury and the Manomet House and Garden Shop in Manomet. Robert was a member of the John Alden Sportsmans Club, DAV, St. Bonaventure’s Parish and enjoyed sailing, gardening, golf, traveling and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) on Tuesday, January 25th from 4 to 8 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 26th at St. Bonaventure’s Church at 10 AM followed by burial at the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his memory be made to The Angel Fund, 649 Main St, Wakefield, MA 01880.
