Thomas J. Lapine, M.D., 69, died Friday morning, January 21, 2011 in his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Nina (Michaud) Lapine, with whom he shared twenty-seven years of marriage.
Born in Ogdensburg, NY on February 7, 1941, he was the son of the late John “Bob” and Mary (Reagan) Lapine. He was raised and educated in Ogdensburg and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy where he was a standout three-season athlete in the Class of 1958. He went on to graduate from St. Michael’s College in Vermont in 1962 and Ottawa Medical School in 1966.
A medical officer in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Lapine served his internship at the Bethesda Naval Hospital from 1966 to 1967 and his residency at the Chelsea Naval Hospital from 1967 to 1970, which brought him to the North Shore. He had been a Danvers resident for many years before moving to Middleton more than 25 years ago.
Committing his life to the practice of medicine, Dr. Lapine practiced locally with the Lynnfield Medical Group of Peabody until 1982, when he began a practice in Danvers along with his wife Nina, a nurse practitioner. For more than thirty years, he devoted himself to the care of his many patients, treating them as friends and family.
An avid golfer, Dr. Lapine was a member at Salem Country Club for many years and enjoyed trips to Scotland and Ireland to play the game. He also enjoyed spending time in the summer at his camp in Ogdensburg on the St. Lawrence River.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Mary Beth Grady and her husband Ned of Danvers, Emily Reagan Lapine of Middleton, Dr. Thomas J. Lapine, Jr. and his wife Rosanne of Palm Bay, FL, and David C. Lapine and his wife Kim of Middleton, nine grandchildren, Kaitlin, Ned, Reagan, and Sam Grady, Trisha Kramer, and Alex, Nick, Maxine, and Audrey Lapine, his brother, Richard R. Lapine of Nashville, TN, and his former wife, Judith R. Lapine of Ogdensburg, NY.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8PM, also in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church.
