Flossie Taylor Hawker, age 94, of 1120 Greenwood Avenue, Danville, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1916 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Taylor and Bettie Taylor. She lived most of her life in Danville and worked for Dan River Mills for 35 years before retiring at age 66. Mrs. Hawker was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters: Polly Ann Perry and her husband John of Elgin, SC, Barbara Jean Webb and her husband Billy of the residence; four sisters: Bertha Sparrow, Mary Jones, and Lucy Mitchell, all of Danville, and Beulah Woodson of Lynchburg, VA; two brothers: Wayne Taylor and Ed Taylor, both of Newport News, VA; two grandchildren: Christen Powell and her husband David, and Ken Perry; one great-grandchild, Ryan, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Irene Thurman, and one brother, Louis Taylor.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Daniel Lackey will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
