East Bridgewater – Mario Moretti, Sr., a life long resident of East Bridgewater, died Tuesday January 18th at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Julia (Pedro) Moretti.
Born and raised in East Bridgewater he was the son of the late Dimo and Lea (Govoni) Moretti.
Mario was a proud Veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy from 1942-1945. His service overseas during WWII earned him an Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and a WWII Victory Medal among others.
He had worked for over forty years as a molder for the former National Foundry in Whitman and the Bridgewater Foundry. After his retirement from the foundry he worked for fifteen years as a favorite custodian for the East Bridgewater Schools.
Mario served eighteen years of dedicated and faithful service as an East Bridgewater call Firefighter.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and for many years was the proprietor of the former Satucket River Sports Shop.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifleman’s Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Massachusetts Waterfowlers.
He was a member of the American Legion, Fred Bates Morse Post, a lifetime member of the East Bridgewater Commercial Club and the Bridgewater Forty Niners Club.
Mario enjoyed working in his garden; however his favorite pastime was spending time with his family recounting the many stories from his youth. He left a valuable legacy of precious memories for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving daughters Sandra Arena and her husband James of Hanson and Judy Ann Kasparian of East Bridgewater and his brother Richard Moretti of East Bridgewater, as well as ten grandchildren thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Mario Moretti, Jr. and brother of the late Dimo Moretti, Helen Lupien, and Angelina LaCrosse.
His funeral service will be held Saturday January 29th at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held Friday January 28th from 4-8 PM.
