Obituary

Gladys Lackey Dalton Dennison, age 86, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home where she had been a resident for the past year.

Born February 11, 1924 in Patrick County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Cain Lackey and Annie Rakes Lackey. She lived most of her life in Danville and was employed by Dan River, Inc. for forty years. She was predeceased by her first husband Oscar Dalton in 1978 and later by her second husband Nelson Dennison. Mrs. Dennison was of the Primitive Baptist Faith.

Survivors include three daughters: Elizabeth Cox of Danville, Peggy Burch and her husband Michael of Blairs, Linda Parsons of Danville; two sons: Claude Dalton and his wife Gail Long of Brosville and Phillip Michael Dalton and his wife Alice of Johnson City, Tennessee; two sisters: Viola Scarce of Danville and Christine Cobbler of Patrick County; three brothers: Teaman Lackey of Bassett, Phalum Lackey of Richmond, and George Lackey of Patrick Springs; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two special friends, Shelby Bradner and David Riddle.

Funeral services officiated by Elder Danny Parker will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and at other times they will be at the residence of her daughter, Linda Parsons, 1431 North Jamerson Road, Danville, VA.
