John J. "Bob" Barros, 80, of New Bedford died unexpectedly on Tuesday January 18, 2011. He was the husband of Maria (Rosario) Barros; they had been married for 59 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph J. and Emily (Leitao) Barros, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Barros was formerly employed as a cook for Moran Towing in New York until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.
Survivors include his wife; his sister, Jean A. Barros; his brother-in-law, Anthony Barboza; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
He was the brother of the late Lillian Barboza and Joseph J. Barros, Jr.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
