William "Brent" Shivers, Sr., 72, of Tifton died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Keith Burch and Rev. Paul Anderson will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Duane Sealy, Brian Sealy, Thomas Sealy, Ronnie Jones, Wiley Girard and Jesse Yawn will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Jamie Livingston. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 20, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Shivers was born on March 22, 1938 in Cuthbert and was the son of Idus Shivers and Elizabeth Farr Shivers, both deceased. He was retired from the Department of Transportation and was a member and clerk of the Church of God of Prophecy in Tifton. He loved the church and could be called on any time for anything that needed to be done. He promoted missions, tithes and giving to the church and those less fortunate.
Mr. Shivers is survived by his wife, Shirley Gordon Shivers of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William Brent “Bill” Jr. and Michelle Shivers of Villa Rica and Charles Edward Shivers of Tifton; one daughter, Lena Elizabeth “Beth” Shivers of Tifton; one brother Derrill Shivers of Atlanta; one sister, Jenan Major of Athens; and two grandchildren.
