Sister M. Leona (Lorraine) Greenfield, 95 a Sister of Mercy for 76 years, died Sunday, January 16, 2011. A native of East Boston, Mass., Sister Leona was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Angel) Greenfield.
Sister Leona received her B.A. degree in English from Mount Saint Mary College, Hooksett, N.H., and her M.Ed. From Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass. For many years she was a dedicated teacher and administrator in Catholic schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In New Hampshire she taught at Sacred Heart School in Nashua; Immaculate Conception in Penacook; and St. Anthony in Manchester. She served as principal at St. Joseph in Keene, and St. Patrick, and St. Catherine Schools in Manchester. She was also a teacher at St. Ann School in Gloucester, Mass.
After retiring from teaching, Sister Leona served as administrator of the Convent of Mercy on Union Street in Manchester. For two years she was at Maria’s House in Methuen, Mass., where her ministry was child care. She also performed numerous services within the community at Warde Health Center in Windham.
Family members include a brother, Thomas Greenfield, of Winthrop, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Driscoll and Mae Laforette, and two brothers, William and Francis Greenfield.
Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, N.H., on Thursday, January20, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at the Warde Health Center. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery; Bedford, NH
