Obituary

Myrtle Martin Gilreath, age 94, of 735 Holland Road, Danville, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past four years.

Born October 25, 1916 in Stuart, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Martin and Mary Layman Martin. She lived most of her life in Danville and was employed by Dan River, Inc. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Elvin Gilreath, in February 1985. Mrs. Gilreath was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter: Phyllis Ryan and her husband Jim of Indian Trail, NC; two sons: Roger L. Gilreath and his wife Betty of Yanceyville, NC, and Tom Gilreath of Charlottesville, VA; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers and seven sisters.

The family wishes to especially thank her caregivers, Cynthia Meador, Gloria Moore, Wanda Nash, and Doris Butts.

Funeral services officiated by Pastor Jonathan Hamilton and Pastor Clyde Everette will be held at the graveside in Schoolfield Cemetery on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 18, 2011, at Swicegood Funeral Home from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence, 735 Holland Road, Danville.
