STEVENSON Richard C. “Dick” of Green Harbor, formerly of Hingham and Arlington, age 84, passed away on January 15, 2011 at home, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
The son of Gertrude and William J. Sr Brother of William J. Jr (Deceased), Elizabeth Flynn of Lexington (Deceased), and Patricia (deceased). Dick is survived by his wife of 52 years Marguerite, son Richard C. Jr of Plymouth, son Mark and his wife Eileen of Humarock, daughters Anne Williams and Beth Stevenson of Green Harbor, and son John and his wife Sue of Braintree.
He leaves behind 8 grandchildren Sean –Bridget-Kayley of Plymouth, Midgie and Jack Williams of Green Harbor-Elizabeth-Caroline-and Mary of Humarock as well as many nieces and nephews
Dick was educated in the Arlington school system, graduating from St. John’s Preparatory school in Danvers. He entered the USN and served during WWII in the South Pacific. He enrolled in and graduated from Boston College class of 1951. He then went to Dover Delaware where he started a career with International Latex as a salesman. He went on to work as the Conventions Manager of the Copley Plaza in Boston. He went to work at Texaco in South Boston, later White Fuel. He worked there 25 years. Dick moved his young family to Hingham where he lived for over 35 years. The family then moved to Green Harbor where they had spent summers. After retiring Dick took a job at New England Book as a courier.
Dick enjoyed golfing, boating and music and fully appreciated the South Shore where he spent most of his life. He was very active in his local legion post, and enjoyed participating in and viewing parades. Dick was a member of the Greater Boston Rental Housing Association, Duxbury Legion and coached Hingham Youth Baseball for years. He enjoyed many sports, and was known to travel as far as Ireland to watch his beloved BC Eagles play football.
Funeral from the Shepherd Funeral Home 216 Main St. (Rt 106) Kingston Wednesday at 10AM. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Green Harbor, Marshfield at 11AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8PM. Interment Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury.
