Janet R. (Carney) Butler, 61, of Taunton died Thursday January 13, 2011 peacefully at home surrounded by her family and nursing friends. She was the wife of Craig F. Butler.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of Catherine Carney Ricketson of New Bedford and the late Henry Carney, she lived in Assonet and Taunton for many years.
Mrs. Butler was formerly employed as a registered nurse at Morton Hospital and the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Massachusetts. Her real passion in life was nursing and caring for others.
She was a graduate of Holy Family High School, Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing, and Roger Williams University. She loved gardening, cooking, swimming, and playing the piano and guitar. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband and mother; her stepfather, Howard Ricketson of New Bedford; two children, Melissa A. Butler of Taunton and Craig Timothy Butler and Ekaterini of Assonet; her mother-in-law, Alice F. Butler of Taunton; two sisters, Catherine Carney Webber of Salem, OR and Maureen Scully Perry and her husband Bob of East Taunton; four grandchildren, Tara, Craig, Theodore, and Freddie; her brother-in-law, Michael Butler and his wife Lorna of Lakeville; her dear friends, Kathy Duffy Fargo and Janice Barnard; four nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was the aunt of the late Carney Webber of Salem, OR.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 22, 2011 at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mount Pleasant St., New Bedford. A Memorial Reception will follow at 12 Noon at the Country Club of New Bedford, 585 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth.
