Abington – Mary T. (Francis) McDonough 84, formerly a long time resident of Rockland died in her home Thursday January 13 after a brave battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of 64 years to Thomas McDonough.
Born in Boston and raised in Roslindale she was the daughter of the late William and Helen (Anderson) Francis.
She had worked for over 15 years for the Rockland Schools and after her retirement worked for several years at Lamp Works of Abington.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother and her greatest joy came from the many family vacations with her children. She loved to travel among her favorites were the many trips to Ireland and many cruises as well as trips to Mohegan Sun and Las Vegas.
In addition to her husband Thomas she is survived by her loving children Thomas McDonough and his wife Debra of Whitman, Janis Donovan and her husband William of Bridgewater, Joanne Nelson and her husband James of Plymouth and Jeanne McDonough-Rooney and her husband William Rooney of Newton, and her brother Robert Francis of Onset, MA & Florida. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday January 20 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Abington. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday January 19 from 4- 8 PM. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Drive / Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185.
