Obituary

Worcester/Paxton: Margie A (Borland) Smith passed away peacefully on Friday January 14, 2011 in the Jewish Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family. Her beloved husband of 63 years, Dr. W. Clifford Smith predeceased her in 2008. She was born in North Towanda, NY on July 1, 1921 daughter of George E. and Florence (Luse) Borland. She graduated from Alleganey General Hospital Nursing School and worked there as a Registered Nurse for many years.

Margie is survived by two daughters, Susan Harrington Moschos and her husband Michael C. Moschos of Worcester and Patty Knox "PK" Smith of Corning, NY; a granddaughter, Katherine Harrington-Beets and her husband Gregory Beets of Austin, TX; two step-grandsons, Charles W. Moschos of New York City, NY and Michael Patrick Moschos of Boston, MA; one great-grandchild, Alexander Harrington Beets of Austin, TX; and a nephew. She is predeceased by a son William Clifford Smith and a sister Betty J. Borland.

She was an active member of The First Congregational Church of Paxton and its Women's Senior Group. Margie was an accomplished crafts woman in making quilts, braided and hooked rugs. She taught rug making and quilting and was an excellent cloth colorist.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Paxton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in The Verona Cemetery in Oakmont, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Congregational Church of Paxton, 1 Church St. Paxton, MA 01612 or to UMass Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938, attn: for Newborn Intensive Care Unit, which her husband Dr. Smith was instrumental in starting for emergency care of newborns at the Memorial Hospital Campus.
