McDANIEL - Vernon D. “Mack” McDaniel, 79, of Yulee passed away Tuesday morning, January 11, 2011 at the Community Hospice Hadlow Center in Jacksonville. He was born December 11, 1931 in Shaw, Mississippi and moved to Yulee 30 years ago from Jacksonville, FL. Before retiring, Mr. McDaniel was employed by the Jacksonville Naval Air Station Rework Facility for 16 years, The University of North Florida for 20 years, and the W. W. Gay Company for eight years. Mr. McDaniel work in engineering fields and was a pioneer in computer technology. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a World War II and a Korean War Veteran. He was also a builder, a dog trainer and a breeder. He enjoyed watching movies with his wife, gardening and watching football – especially the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Florida Gators. Mr. McDaniel is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Joann M. McDaniel, whom he met and fell in love with when he was a soldier during World War II. He is also survived by a daughter and son in law, Brigitte and Fred Schell of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Marylynn Carrero of Greenville, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Nichole Sinnott and her husband, Jason, and Monica Schell; and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Phelps officiating.
