Julian Brown Hunter, 92, of Wilcox County passed on to eternal life Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 3 P.M., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ben Hill County with Rev. B.J. Funk officiating.
Mr. Hunter was born December 19, 1918 in Wilcox County to the late Charles Evan and Sarah Brown Hunter. He graduated from Abbeville High School before joining the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge, he went to work for the Civil Service in Macon until the outbreak of WW II. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Soubarissen A093 as Fire Controlman; giving coordinates for incoming enemy aircraft in the Pacific Theatre. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked with the railroad retiring as an engineer with CSX. Mr. Hunter was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Sephalee H. Hunter of Wilcox County; Children: Paula H. Rogers of Macon, Joe & Judy Hunter-Hill of Fitzgerald and Dr. John R. Lane & “Cissy” Sephalee Hunter Lane of Milledgeville; grandchildren: Kimberly H. & Brandon Comer of Americus, Browne & Jeanie Harper of Fitzgerald and John Hunter Lane of Milledgeville; great grandchildren: Davis Comer & Delaney Comer of Americus. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
