Taunton – Mary Rose (Souza) DeFayette, long time Dighton resident, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Morton Hospital Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was 74 years of age. She was the loving wife of the late Wilfred DeFayette. She was born in Taunton, Ma. Daughter of the late Henry Souza and Rose (Bento) Souza. She was educated in Taunton schools. She worked as a nursing assistant for Paul Dever State School and Marion Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Nicholas Of Myra Church of North Dighton. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching movies. She will be sadly missed by her best friend, her dog Rosie, who was very special to her. She was the loving mother of three sons, Joseph DeFayette of Taunton, James R. DeFayette of North Dighton and Paul E. and his wife Maria DeFayette of California. She also leaves behind two sisters, Theresa “Terry” Peck of Taunton and Angela Mason of Taunton. She was predeceased by two brothers, Antone and Clifford Souza and one sister, Ida Watts. She was also the loving grandmother of James Louis DeFayette of Florida and Jennifer DeFayette of Minnesota and of three great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her funeral services will be held Saturday at the Taunton Funeral Home at 9am followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Nicholas of Myra Church in North Dighton at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held Friday 5-8pm. Burial at St. Josephs Cemetery in Taunton.
