James H. Shea, Jr.

James H. Shea, Jr., 85, of Taunton formerly of Walpole and Mansfield passed away on Wednesday January 12, 2011 at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton.
Born in Attleboro, MA on February 2, 1925, he was a son of the late James H., Sr. and Helen B. (Noonan) Shea.
Jim grew up and was educated in Mansfield. He served in the Merchant Marines and during WWII he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1946 with the rank of Fireman, Second Class.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Shea had worked in the Maintenance Dept. at the Miller Brewery in Fulton, New York. He had previously been employed for over 20 years at the American Can Co. in Needham, and when younger he and his former wife owned and operated the Kashong Inn in Bellona, New York.
A Taunton resident for over 5 years, Mr. Shea had previously resided in Walpole and Mansfield. Jim was a member of the Norwood American Legion and while living in Taunton had attended St. Mary’s Church.
He is survived by his devoted children Thomas M. Shea of Dover, Daniel F. Shea of Norfolk, Anne E. Mangini of Walpole and the late William D. Shea. The brother of Patricia Dalton of Mansfield, Thomas Shea of Maryland, Noreen Stanford of Virginia, Jack Shea and Sandra Michaud both of Arizona, Michael Shea of Needham and the late Helen Handy, Mary Nunes and William Shea, he is also survived by 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday January 18th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday January 17th from 6-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Shea’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans 17 Court St. Boston, MA 02108.
