Obituary

WEBSTER – Elizabeth Claire (Lariviere) Halko, 86, returned home to her Lord on Monday, January 10, 2011. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred J. Halko, whom she married on May 4, 1946 and who died on June 11, 2002.

She leaves her loving children: Stephen John Halko of Carmel Valley, CA, Elizabeth Anne Danforth of Oxford, Nancy Patricia Paul and her husband Andrew of Alpharetta, GA, Mary Ellen Stockdale and her husband Donald of Webster, James Christopher Halko and his wife Kathleen of Billerica, and Joseph Paul Halko and his spouse Christopher DeMay of Northboro; 10 grandchildren, Kristin McNamara, Heidi Zoltak, Jennifer Graves, Jamie Danforth, Joshua Paul, Nicholas Paul, Lori Hanlon, Michael Stockdale, Matthew Halko and Connor Halko; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Tyndall of Windsor, CT; a brother, Richard Lariviere of Vernon, CT; nieces and nephews.

She was born in Webster and raised in Oxford, a daughter of Hector and Harriet (Dziembowski) Lariviere. She moved to Webster in 1965. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1942. Since then, she helped organize class reunions.

Mrs. Halko was a teller at the First National Bank in Webster for many years. She then was a secretary at Chaffee Brothers Box Company in Oxford. Before retiring, she was the activities director at Oxford Nursing Home.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and a former member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford. She was a member of St. Roch’s Rosary Sodality and former president of the St. Roch’s Book Club. She taught Christian Doctrine at the church for many years. Along with her husband, she taught Pre Cana classes for the Christian Family Movement. She was also a charter member of the Oxford Women’s Club. In her youth, she was chosen the Christmas Seal Girl of the Year.

Mrs. Halko enjoyed reading, cooking and family geneology.

The funeral will be held Friday, January 14, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling period will be from 9:15 to 10:15 AM Friday, January 14, in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 18 East Main Street, Webster, MA 01570.
