Obituary

Thomas O. Hodge (Tommy) was born on October 11th 1916 to Florance Rosita Smith Hodge and Thomas G. Hodge of Parson Estate, Sea Cows Bay; one of 12 Children.

He married Enid "Ivy" Thomas in 1945 and shorthy afterwards they moved to St Thomas, US Virgin Island, where they bought a house in The Hospital Ground section. Following this move, their first daughter Myrah was born, followed by a second daughter Shirlean and son Lucien Renaldo.

In 1954 Tommy followed Enid to New York City in search of a better life for their family. Tommy during this time held jobs at Presbyterian Hospital and later Bellvue Hospital while also working on the New York waterfront as a longshoreman. As a longshoreman, the work was hard, very dangerous and consumed long hours. Indeed he was serverly injured several times including a severe fall into the ship's cargo hole. However he was tough and strong and always got back up and carried on in fullfilling his many responsibilities as a husband, father, worker, union and church member. During his 40 plus years as a hospital worker and on the Waterfront Thomas maintained active participation in the Hospital workers, and the Longshorman's unions.

Along with his strong work ethic and love of his family, his spiritual life was very important to him.
After coming to the United States he joined Mt Olive Church in New York City. Over the years he was a member of the Gospel Chorus and later the Senior Choir. He also went on to serve as a Deacon and member of the Decon Board. He was also elected and served as a member of the Church's Trustee Board.

Deacon Hodge retired from the Senior Choir, the Decon and Trustee Board in 1994 when he moved back to St Thomas. Decon Hodge was a faithful servant of God and always gave generously of what he had to God's Church to spread his word and glory.

Thomas O. Hodge was the last surviving member among his 11 siblings. He is survived by Enid Hodge, daughters Myrah Hodge-Barton, Shirlean Douglas-Hall , son Lucien R. Hodge, grandchildren Ayana Douglas-Hall and Omari Douglas-Hall, son-in-law Ingram Douglas-Hall and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and special friends.
