TEWKSBURY - Anne Marie (Cadigan) Richards, age 72, a well known resident of Tewksbury, died Thursday evening, January 6, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, following a courageous four month battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Al Richards, with whom she had celebrated a 40th wedding anniversary this past October 10th.
She was born in Boston, June 3, 1938, one of six children of the late Timothy and Josephine (Shanahan) Cadigan. She was raised in Charlestown, attended St. Benedict's Parochial School in Somerville and graduated St. Joseph's High School in Somerville. She lived in Reading for several years, before moving to Tewksbury in 1974.
She worked as a secretary initially at Schraffts Candy Company in Charlestown, and later for the Tewksbury Advertiser Newspaper.
She was a Communicant of St. William's Parish in Tewksbury.
She will be remembered for her love of shopping, especially at flea markets, and was unable to drive by a garage sale or yard sale without stopping to look for treasurers.
She also had a lifelong love of beaches, and her favorite place was Salisbury Beach.
Besides her husband Al, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Burhoe) Gray and husband David of Tewksbury, two beloved grandchildren, Christopher Gray of Tewksbury and Keri-Ann Gray of Woburn; a brother, Timothy Cadigan of Acton, ME; two dear sisters whom she considered best friends, Joan Ryan and Maureen Francis both of Tewksbury; her brothers-in-law, Philip Francis and James McGlinchey both of Tewksbury and Frank Homer of Billerica; along with many nieces and nephews and friends throughout Charlestown and the Merrimack Valley.
She was also sister and best friend of the late Catherine Homer and Eileen McGlinchey; and sister-in-law of the late James J. Ryan Jr.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 11 in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Dana-Farber "Jimmy Fund" 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445, will be appreciated.
