Obituary

TAUNTON – Lillian E. (Duarte) Bettencourt, wife of the late Manuel J. Bettencourt, died at Morton Hospital & Medical Center on Dec. 23, 2010.
She was 89.
Born in Taunton, she was daughter of the late Frank and Phoebe (Frates) Duarte.
She was a lifelong Taunton resident and a 1939 graduate of Taunton High School.
A retired cafeteria manager, Mrs. Bettencourt worked in the Taunton Public School Department for over twenty-five years.
She was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
Devoted to her family, she especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Philip E. Bettencourt and his wife Linda of Norton, and Richard P. Bettencourt and his wife Joanne of Dighton; a daughter, Diane James and her husband David of East Barre, VT; two brothers, Alfred Duarte of Barrington, RI and Edward Duarte of Taunton; three sisters, Evelyn Perry and Catherine Belanger of Taunton, and Florence Dickenson of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Frank, George, Joseph, James and Robert Duarte, and the late Helen Malenfant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Kilmer Ave. Taunton on Friday, Jan. 14th at 9 a.m.
Committal Services will follow at the MA National VA Cemetery, Bourne at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
