Mary C. (Souza) Serras, 89, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away in the presence of her loving family on Wednesday January 5, 2011 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank F. Serras who died on May 10, 1995. Mr. and Mrs. Serras were wed on April 22, 1939.
Born in Taunton, MA on October 20, 1921, she was a dear daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Moniz) Souza.
Mary grew up in Norton and was educated in Norton public schools. She had worked as an Assembler at the Foxboro Co. for 10 years before retiring. Mrs. Serras had previously been employed at the former L.G. Balfour Co. in Attleboro and the former Defiance Bleachery Co., and the former Talbot’s Woolen Mill both in Norton.
A lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and reading. Her favorite times spent were those in the presence of her cherished family, which was reflected in the relationship she shared with her daughter Diane.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Diane J. Serras of Norton. The sister of Doris Camara of Taunton, Adelino “Ed” Souza of Norton, Eldora Souza and Beatrice DeOliveira both of Florida and the late Mario, Frank and Joseph Souza, Alice Andrade and Rosalina Melim, Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invite to attend, will be held on Saturday January 8th at 8:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday January 7th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home .
