FALL RIVER … Dorothy Ann (Verville) Szulewski, 57, of Fall River passed away Tuesday at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of 34 years of Charles L. Szulewski.
Born in Fall River she was the daughter of Dorothy (Gamage) Verville of Fall River and the late Norman Verville and had been a lifelong resident of this city.
Prior to her illness, Dottie was employed by Healthfirst Family Care Center, Inc. During her 14 years there, she held several positions, beginning as a nurse and most recently as the Front Office Manager. She also worked as a Funeral Assistant at the former Niagara Funeral Home. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish and was a member of its Holy Rosary Society and was a Eucharistic Minister.
Dottie was best known for her compassion, creativity, and her infectious smile. She loved gardening as was exhibited by her beautiful garden, which she called her “Little Piece of Heaven”.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by two children, a son Charles J. Szulewski, II of Fall River and a daughter, Geneva Rose Szulewski of Belmont, MA, a grandson, Draco L. Szulewski of Fall River, four brothers, Norman Verville and his wife Rosemary of Seekonk, John Verville of Fall River, Gary Verville and his wife Connie of North Dakota, Donald Verville and his wife Liane of Tiverton, and the late Charles Verville, two sisters, JoAnn Mikulski and husband Stanley of Warren and Bette Shea and her husband John of Westport, a sister-in-law Kathleen Cabral and her husband Joseph of Somerset. Dottie was the very special aunt of Joseph and Joshua Cabral. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 8AM from the BOYKO MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 709 Broadway, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9AM at Holy Cross Church at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Pulaski Street, Fall River. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 5 – 8 PM.
