Obituary

Ms Erma Lee Barnes, age 89, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. She was the daughter of the late George Byron and Erma May Barnes of Swiftown, MS.

Ms Barnes was active in social and civic affairs in California. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Salinas, CA. Erma was a member of many clubs and organizations including the Junior Matrons of California, International Journalist Club, Tracy Woman’s Club, Sponsor’s Club at Pebble Beach, Country Garden Club and she was also a cub scout leader. She was a religious layperson having taught a complete church service for primary grades. She wrote religious stories for children and as a monologist presented the stories in person. Some of her poetry was on display at the local library.

Ms Barnes is survived by two sons, Andrew Byron Kibler of Water Valley, MS and David Pierce Kibler of San Jose, CA; two grandsons, one granddaughter and a host of relatives.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Aileen Phillips and four brothers, George Barnes, Herbert Barnes, John Barnes and Kenneth Barnes

A private service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS on Tuesday, January 4, 2011.
