William H. Greene, 78, of 7 Friedel Street died December 26, 2003. Born in Worcester, of Clifford W. and Marjorie (Bell) Greene.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Pauline C. Greene. His daughters Linda C. Merry of Dalton, MA and Leanne M. Greene of Worcester and his son William C. Greene of North Grafton. He also leaves four grandchildren, Lisa C. Clark of VT, Brian C. Merry of MD, Eric R. Merry of NH, Jennifer K. Greene of Oxford and a great grandson, Ryan Clark.
He graduated from South High School and attended Middlebury College, Dartmouth College and AIC College. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He worked at Indian Motorcycle Co. and was later involved in the heating and oil business with his father. He and Richard Whitehead developed the golf course on Rte. 122 in Rutland, now Bedrock Golf Course.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Worcester, a charter member of the South Worcester Kiwanis Club, a member and past master of Isaiah Thomas Lodge of Masons, and achieved thirty second degree. He was a member of Allepo Shriners of Boston.
His passions in life were his family, gardening and golf.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 29 at 11:00 a.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, Dec. 28 from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the: Shriners Burn Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
