EVELYN M. SWAIN
Enjoyed her Family, Cooking & Gardening

Wolfeboro----Evelyn M Swain 92, formerly of Laconia passed peacefully at Wolfeboro Bay in Wolfeboro, January 1, 2011.
Evelyn was born July 17, 1919 in Wolfeboro to Charles and Dora Haley, spent her childhood in Melvin Village, a town she truly loved and the people in it. She loved to tell stories of her youth, her love for her siblings, and getting an education in a one room schoolhouse. At a young age, Evelyn and two of her siblings left Melvin in exchange for the big city where she met the love of her life, Arnold Swain. She and Bud were married October 27, 1948 in Manchester, Vermont after the seasons end at the Equinox Inn, where they met and were employed. Arnold and Evelyn traveled cross country working in various hotels, and then settled in Massachusetts where they raised their family. The cousins all tell the stories of loving to go to Evelyn's house in Wilmington where lifetime memories were founded.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Arnold, a daughter, Cynthia, of Arlington, Mass, a son, Charles, of Arizona, a sister, Agnes Veillieux, of Winthrop, Mass. and several nieces and nephews with whom she remained very close with. Her niece, Gaye Hodgdon, was her mainstay and caregiver for the past five years, and in life they always shared a special relationship. She was predeceased by her siblings, Maurice Mack, Frances Whittier, Kenneth Haley, Doris Smith, and Elaine Robie.
In her life she was a gourmet cook, seamstress, avid gardener, and exercise enthusiast. She never missed a day of walking right to the end, a very health conscience lady. Evelyn was very loyal to her family, a sweet, woman of kindness who had a good set of values, and she lived by example. She loved life, and her family was her life, never once hesitating to tell anyone about them.
In her memory, start walking, that would be her request for your wellness.

Burial will be in the Spring at the Tuftonboro Town House Cemetery.
