Chester Elvyn Smith, age 89, of 6818 Whitmell School Road, Danville, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 in the Riverside Health Care Center.
Born November 16, 1921 in Rockingham County, NC, he was the son of the late David A. Smith and Bessie Crawford Smith. He lived most of his life on Whitmell School Road and was a truck driver for Watkins Salt Company. He was married to Beatrice Irene Walker Smith who predeceased him. Mr. Smith was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son: Garry Keith Smith and his wife Linda of Whitmell School Road; two grandchildren: Gary Keith Smith, II and Jaime Beth Pritchett and her husband Curtis; one great-grandson: Cole Pritchett.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sisters, Naomi Lynch and Iris Stevens, and by two brothers, David Smith and Bill Smith.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Bob Yeaman will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, January 3, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other times, they will be at the residence of his son, 6592 Whitmell School Road, Danville.
