Norman E. St. Onge, 85, of Chelmsford,

… Army Veteran of WW II and Korea…

CHELMSFORD, MA: Norman E. St. Onge, age 85, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass..

He was the husband of Ruth (Bolton) St. Onge with whom he would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on January 18th.

Born in Marlboro on July 11, 1918, he was the son of the late Norman W. and Emma J. (Hinckley) St. Onge.

Mr. St. Onge attended Marlboro schools and graduated from Marlboro High School.

He began his 20 year military service career in 1935 with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Heppner Junction, Oregon and later served in Danby, Vermont until being discharged in 1938.

Mr. St. Onge served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He earned several decorations including the Army Defense Service Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Army Occupation Medal (Germany & Japan), the Armed Forces Reservist Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. St. Onge was honorably discharged and retired from the Army on June 30, 1958 having earned the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4th Grade.

He lived in Chelmsford since 1955 and moved to North Chelmsford in 1995. Mr. St. Onge attended St. John the Evangelist Church and previously attended St. Mary’s Parish both in Chelmsford.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0268 of Billerica and a life member of the Chelmsford Elks.

Mr. St. Onge served as an umpire for the Chelmsford Men’s Softball League.

He enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool at the Chelmsford Elks.

Besides his wife, he leaves 3 sons; Edward N. St. Onge and his wife Sharon of Nashua, NH, Richard St. Onge and his wife Denise of Dunn, NC and Stephen St. Onge of Derry, NH; 5 daughters; Linda St. Onge of Wilton, NH, Nancy J. Monkiewicz and her husband Ray of Ipswich, Eleanor Hedlund and her friend Kevin Cody of Chelmsford, Norma L. Lucontoni and her husband James of Chelmsford, and Susan Dulac and her friend Robert Cartledge of Nashua, NH; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
