Obituary

Adelbert “Al” E. Hoffman, 97, of Lawrence, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Berkeley Retirement and Nursing Home in Lawrence.
Al was born in Boston, MA and was raised in Bridgewater. He worked as a Brewer for several area Breweries throughout his career. During WWII he worked as a welder in the Boston Shipyard. Al also owned and operated the former Lawrence Stationary for several years. He resided in Framingham for 25 years, spent several years on the Cape, several years in Pennsylvania with his son and most recently settled back in Lawrence.
In his free time, Al enjoyed fishing, spending time at the Senior Citizen Center in Methuen and greatly enjoyed bowling throughout his life. Al’s family would like to extend a special note of thanks to the Berkeley Retirement and Nursing Home Staff for the excellent and dedicated care they extended to both Al and his family throughout his residence.
Al is predeceased by his loving wife, Mildred (O’Connell) Hoffman. He leaves his two children, Adelbert “Bud” Hoffman and his wife Leslie of Clermont, FL and Kathleen Ann Nightingale and her husband William of Methuen, a brother, George Hoffman of Pittsburg, PA and a sister, Gertrude Capperella of Bryantville, MA, 6 grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Hoffman, Brenda Baga, Scott and Mark Nightingale and Kara Hewett and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Berkeley Retirement Home Chapel, 150 Berkeley St., Lawrence. A Funeral in his honor will be held at 10 a.m. at the chapel on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. Donations in Al’s name may be made to the Activities Department at the Berkeley Retirement Home, 150 Berkeley St., Lawrence, MA 01841.
